Posted on AC Tips March 25, 2011 by John Brescia

In South Florida, the use of an AC unit to enjoy comfortable temperatures inside  your home is necessary. As the summer nears, it is important to maintain your air conditioning system, so it continues to work properly with the high temperatures approaching. According to the National Oceanic and Atmosphere Administration, last year Broward experienced temperatures as high as 90 degrees Fahrenheit during the month of July.

The increase in the usage of this equipment results in an increase of your electricity bill. Florida Power and Light, provides you with tips that will help with energy-savings, these include:

  • Cool your home at 78 degrees or warmer with the thermostat fan switched to auto. For additional savings, raise your thermostat to 82 degrees or warmer when you’re away.

  • Clean or replace the A/C filter regularly to help your unit run more efficiently and trim cooling costs.

  • Turn off your ceiling fan when you leave the room. A fan that runs all the time costs up to $7 a month

It is important to service your AC unit in preparation for the hot summer months to conserve energy.
